Pruitt hits fourth home run of the season in loss
Johnson City, Tenn. - Mathew Pruitt connected on his fourth home run of the season in the nightcap against the Buffaloes, but the Tornados were unable to overcome Milligan on the road in falling in both games of the doubleheader.
The Tornados fall to 6-23 on the season with the pair of losses.
Milligan opened the game by scoring eight runs in the first two innings, chasing Tornados starting pitcher Joseph Lepore (2-1) after one and a third innings’ work.
Brevard put a run across the plate in the top of the third as Michael Calhoun hit a one out double to right centerfield. After advancing on a wild pitch from Buffaloes starter Sean Robinson, Calhoun came around to score on Eric Renegar’s grounder to second.
After another Milligan run was tallied in the bottom of the fourth, the Tornados responded with four runs in the top of the sixth, taking advantage of three Milligan errors as Renegar, Kramer Clark, Stephen Mullis and Pruitt all scored in the inning.
The Tornados were unable to plate another run in the game, going down in order in the seventh to end the ball game.
Milligan again got on the board early, scoring 11 runs in the first two innings against Brennan Daniels (0-5) and Jacob Koontz on their way to the two game sweep.
The Tornados recorded hits in the second, fourth and fifth innings, capped by Pruitt’s two-out solo home run to left field in the top of the second in the loss.
Brevard is back in action this weekend, traveling to Tigerville, S.C. to take on North Greenville University. First pitch of the three game series on Ashmore Field comes on Friday, April 2nd, at 3 p.m.
