Brevard couldn't match the firepower of UNC-Asheville in the loss
Asheville, N.C. - The Brevard College men’s soccer team traveled to Asheville on Wednesday evening to take on the UNC-Asheville Bulldogs. The Tornados were unable to overpower the Bulldogs in the match as they fell 3-0 at Greenwood Field.
Sean Allison (Santa Rosa, Calif.) and Patrick Urmson (Rauma, Finland) led the offensive attack for Brevard firing four of the team’s eight shots throughout the match. Each of the shots were on target but the Bulldogs’ keeper was up to the task.
It took just two shots for UNC-Asheville to take a lead when Bryan Bartels scored his first goal of the season at the 14:40 mark in the first half. Brevard was only able to take three shots in the opening half. All three were on-net but the Tornados were unable to find the back of the net and took the match into halftime down 1-0.
The Tornados came out and had an early opportunity in the second half when Jami Uuttu (Naantali, Finland) put a shot on goal, but he wasn’t able to burn the Asheville goalie. At the 63:28 mark Jake Hagedorn put one past Brevard keeper Jack Shaw (Simpsonville, S.C.) to give the Bulldogs a 2-0 lead off of a corner kick taken by Connor Holzinger.
Holzinger used a penalty kick to give UNC-Asheville their third goal at the 85:36 mark.
Despite allowed three goals, Shaw was able to stop four of seven shots on goal in the match.
The men’s team continues their season on the road when they head to Clayton State to take on the Lakers. Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Laker Field in Morrow, Georgia.
