Men's and women's XC place third at Bulldog StampedeSeptember 26, 2010
The Brevard College Cross Country Team raced at the Bulldog Stampede Saturday September 25 in Wingate, N.C. The Tornados competed against runners from six different institutions at Wingate University.
The Brevard women’s team placed 3rd in the seven-team field. Angela Canale posted the best time for the Tornados in the Women’s 6000-meter run, completing the course in 20 minutes and 44 seconds, giving her a 2nd place finish in the 47-woman field. The freshman averaged 5:34 per mile. Olivia Fawcett followed at 24:10 and a 17th place finish, while Ariel Musielaar crossed the line in 24:29. Melissa Schmidt put in a time of 25:16. Danielle Brown crossed the finish line at 26:10, while Grace Skiles finished at 28:23. Liza Fortenberry finished at 29:51. Belmont Abbey’s Olivia Flaggert won the race in 20:38. The Bulldogs of Wingate University won the team competition.
The BC men placed third in the seven-team meet. Jordan Tager ran the fastest for Brevard in the Men’s 8,000-Meter Race. The freshman averaged 5:59 per mile on the way to a 29:42 finish to place 11th in the 57-man field. Michael Allsopp finished with a 29:59 and a 13th place finish while Erik Gibbs ran for 30:37 and a 18th place result. Erik Gibbs crossed in 31:29. Chris Shore covered the course in 31:49 and Josh Mower came in at 32 minutes even. Christopher Shelton finished up at a 33:47 mark. Jourdane Landry was able to cross in 36:04. Simon Holzapfel of Tusculum won the race with a 26:09 finish. Wingate took the men’s team title as well.
The Tornados run again on October 9th when they travel to Greenville, S.C. to race in the event hosted by Furman.
