Tornados fall at Mars Hill 6-2
BC fell behind in the first minute and couldn't come back
Mars Hill, N.C. - The Brevard College women’s soccer team was unable to take down the Lions of Mars Hill College on Friday evening. The Tornados fell 6-2 as they were outshot 18-8 and fall to 3-6-1 on the season and 1-2 conference play with the loss.
Mars Hill opened up the scoring when Brevard had an own goal in the first minute of play. The Tornados fell behind 1-0 early and were unable to recover. Alyssa Morris scored a goal at the 08:07 mark to give the Lions a 2-0 lead and that was the score going into halftime.
The Lions started the scoring early in the second half, as Abby Martin scored three goals in seven minutes. Martin put one in from 10 yards out at the 50:59 mark. Martin found the net again in the 52nd minute off of a breakaway. Martin took a feed from Leah Taylor in the 57th minute to give Mars Hill a 5-0 lead. Taylor scored a goal in the 60th minute on a breakaway to give the Lions a 6-0 lead.
The Tornados tried make a comeback late but their attempt wasn’t strong enough to overtake the Lions. Elena Crowe (Candler, N.C.) scored her third goal of the season when she followed on a corner kick by Allie Hovis (Charlotte, N.C.) in the 64th minute.
Allie Hovis scored at the 70:42 mark to give the Tornados a 6-2 which was the final tally.
The Tornados are back in action on Wednesday when they travel to Hickory to take on the Bears of Lenoir-Rhyne. Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m.
