Men's Tennis Concludes BC Mountain Invitational on a High Note
The Brevard College Men’s Tennis team finished up the BC Mountain Invitational this Sunday on a high note for players Andrew Thompson and Jarred Fisher. Both players won their final matches on Sunday to finish up the tournament with matching 2-1 records.
In a recap of the action on Saturday and Sunday, saw Thompson and Fisher both drop their opening matches to players from Pfeiffer, with Thompson falling to Lawson and Fisher losing to De Witt. However, both players bounced back later, fighting off players from Carson-Newman in closely contested matches. Thompson held off Schwartz in three sets and Fisher ground out the victory against Kira in a hard-fought three sets. On Sunday, Thompson and Fisher easily breezed past their opponents from North Georgia College to finish up the weekend 2-1.
Konstantin Savelyev, Cole Altizer, and Nate Lyles also finished up the tournament 2-1. Savelyev led off his first round Saturday morning defeating Flores from Pfeiffer in three sets. He continued his winning ways in his second match of the day, sweeping Carson-Newman’s Harvie in straight sets. However, North Georgia’s Partrick was able to hold him off in the third match, denying Savelyev the chance to sweep through the tournament. Altizer won his first two rounds against Aker from Carson-Newman and Pfeiffer’s Pouchet in three sets. However, he retired from his third match on Sunday against North Georgia’s Moore, withdrawing because of health concerns. Lyles swept his first two matches in straight sets against Carson-Newman’s Borthic and Pfeiffer’s Simpson, but was also unable to complete the sweep, dropping his third match to Aguilon from North Georgia.
Shane Apps struggled a little bit this weekend, dropping all three matches, but he showed a lot of heart in his matches against Carson-Newman’s Slagle, Pfeiffer’s Koushik, and North Georgia’s Neto.
Brevard Men’s Tennis is serving up more action next week from September 12-14, here at Brevard College as they host the Brevard College Mountain Invitation #2.
