Atkinson leads Tornados to victory over NGU, Brevard falls to Columbia in nightcap
Brevard splits matches at the Columbia Tri-Match
Columbia, S.C. - The Brevard College volleyball team snapped a 19 match losing streak on Saturday afternoon, defeating the North Greenville Crusaders in the first match of the Columbia Tri-Match, 21-25, 25-23, 25-23, 25-23.
Jamie Atkinson led the way for Brevard in the match, recording 14 kills and five blocks in the match, while Erin Rollins added eight kills and four blocks in the victory. Bethany Stevenson set up the Brevard attack in the match, leading the way with 31 set assists, while Rebecca Schoonover, Kortney Conner and Stevenson combined for 10 service aces in the match. Schoonover led the Tornados backline with a match-high 19 digs, while Sydney Yeomans had 13 digs. Jordei Osby led the Tornados at the net with eight blocks as the Tornados stopped 13 Crusaders attacks at the net.
The Tornados fell in the nightcap against host Columbia, 16-25, 25-23, 25-15, 25-22, despite 10 kills by Ashlie Morrison, as Brevard fell to 3-20 on the season. Conner added eight kills and Erin Cox had five as the Tornados hit 18.5 percent from the field in the match. Stevenson again set up the attack with 27 set assists, while Atkinson, Stevenson and Conner all had two service aces apiece. Defensively, Yeomans led four Tornados in double-figures in digs with 15 in the match, while Lindsey Rogers and Conner both had 13 and Schoonover finished with 10. Brevard continued their dominance at the net, recording 11 blocks in the net as a team, with Osby leading the way with six total blocks in the four set match.
The Tornados continue on the road this upcoming week, traveling to Wingate, N.C. to take on SAC opponent Wingate University on Tuesday, October 26th. First serve between the Tornados and the Bulldogs is set for 7 p.m.
