Brendle drops 18 in 78-49 rout of Knights
Lindsay Brendle scored 18 points in a 29 point win over St. Andrews
Laurinburg, N.C. - The Brevard College women’s basketball team was able to pick up their first win of the season on Saturday when they traveled to Laurinburg, N.C. to take on the Knights of St. Andrews Presbyterian College. Lindsay Brendle (High Point, N.C.) was able to lead the Tornados with 18 points in their 29-point rout of the Knights. Brevard toppled St. Andrews 78-49, moving them to 1-3 on the season.
The Tornados and Knights traded baskets up and down the floor to start off the game at Harris Court, but it was the Tornados that were able to jump out on top after 10 minutes of play when they went on a 15-2 run and took a 12 point lead with 8:15 remaining in the first half. After allowing a few baskets the Tornados were able to retake the momentum and headed into half-time with a 40-27 lead.
After the half, Brevard was able to keep up the intensity in the second-half and continued to build on their 13-point lead by going on a 10-0 run sparked by Brendle, who scored the first four points of the half. It was all Tornados as they continued to build on their lead throughout the half and outscored the Knights 38-22 in the second half, leading to the 78-49 final.
Lindsay Brendle led all-scorers in the game by dropping 18 with Anna Schlobohm (Greensboro, N.C.) putting up 14 points of her own. Brendle is now leading the Tornados in scoring as she averages 13 points per game on the season. Micheala Watkins (Forest City, N.C.) set a new Brevard College women’s basketball record by coming up with 10 steals in the Tornados win. Freshman, Jennifer Martin (Asheboro, N.C.) was able to score her first collegiate points when she hit a layup with 3:24 remaining in the game.
The Tornados continue their non-conference road schedule on Tuesday when they travel to Young Harris, Georgia to take on the Young Harris Mountain Lions.
