BC Women's Golf 2008-09 Season Outlook

Brevard, N.C. - The Brevard College Women’s Golf program will play in their inaugural tournament next week at the Glen Cannon Fall Invitational.  This history making event marks the official start of the Brevard College Athletic Departments newest sport.

“I am thrilled and delighted to be part of this new chapter in the history of BC Athletics,” said Coach Nelson. “Very few coaches have the opportunity to put their mark on a new collegiate program.”

The Tornado women will compete with five players throughout the fall, with two additional recruits set to arrive in January.  BC will be lead by freshman recruit Alisiya Klochkova (Moscow, Russia).   Klochkova comes to Brevard with a very impressive junior golf resume.  She has competed for the Russian Junior National Team at several events all over the world.  She has also attended the prestigious David Ledbetter Golf Academy in Florida.

“We are fortunate to have such an outstanding freshman recruit join our first year program,” said Coach Nelson. “I can certainly see the impact of her having received instruction from some of the top swing coaches in the business.  Her golf swing is technically very sound.”

Klochkova will be joined by incoming sophomore transfer Erika Kellems (Beech Island, S.C.).  Kellems attended Aiken Technical College last year in preparation for her transfer to Brevard.  This season also marks the beginning of her collegiate career at Brevard College.

Coach Nelson completed his roster with returning juniors Erin Craig (Pisgah Forest, N.C.), Katie Brown (Canover, N.C.) and Jennifer Brown (Canover, N.C.).  Craig brings to the program some very valuable experience from her high school years.  She played on the boy’s team at the prestigious Cambridge School in Florida.

Coach Nelson anticipates both Erin and Alisiya to make up a formable 1-2 punch for the team.

“Both these players should be able to post competitive scores at all our upcoming events.  I’m very excited to see how we will do as a team behind their leadership and play,” stated Coach Nelson.

Katie and Jennifer will do double duty this fall while balancing their time between golf and softball.  Both have played golf in high school and always expressed an interest in our program from the beginning.
“We will have the benefit of both these young women playing for us this fall. I’m delighted Coach Stubbs (Women’s Softball) agreed to let them play until our two new recruits arrive in January,” Coach Nelson comments.  “They are excellent players that should post competitive scores.”

The Tornados open up their inaugural season on September 14-15 when BC will compete at the Glenn Cannon Fall Invitational which is co-hosted by Brevard College.
