Canale and Bryce named November Sports Spot Student-Athletes of the MonthDecember 8, 2010
Brevard, N.C. - Angela Canale of the Brevard College Cross Country team and Neville Bryce of the BC Football team have been named the Sports Spot Brevard College Student-Athletes of the Month for the month of November as recognized on WSQL 1240 AM on Wednesday afternoon. The award is presented by Sports Spot in conjunction with the Brevard College Athletic Department.
Canale was voted the Female Student-Athlete of the month by the Brevard College Athletic Head Coaching staff over fellow nominees Lindsay Brendle of the women’s basketball team and Rebecca Schoonover of the volleyball team.
Canale led the Tornados in two events of the month of November, competing at the 2010 Food Lion South Atlantic Conference Championships in Wingate, N.C., as well as at the 2010 NCAA Southeast Regional meet in Charlotte, N.C. Canale finished fifth overall at the SAC Championships, becoming the second BC women’s Cross Country runner to achieve First Team All-Conference honors, while also making the All-Freshman team. She also finished 18th overall in the 188-woman field at the NCAA Regional meet. Overall, Canale was the top finisher in leading the Tornados to an eighth place team finish at the SAC Championships and a 24th place finish at the Regionals.
Bryce was voted the Men’s Student-Athlete of the Month by the Brevard College Head Coaching Staff over fellow nominees Josh Roper of the men’s basketball team and Jonathan Lavelle of the cross country team.
Bryce led the Tornados rushing attack in their final month of the season, carrying the ball 35 times for 134 yards and three touchdowns as the BC Football team went 1-1 in the month of November. Bryce carried the ball eight times for 44 yards against Newberry on November 6th, before carrying the ball 27 times for 90 yards and the game-winning touchdown against Mars Hill College on November 13th, as the Tornados defeated the Lions for the first time since Brevard joined the South Atlantic Conference.
These two athletes will be presented with action shots recognizing their award, which will be displayed in the lobby of Boshamer Gymnasium for the entire school year. A total of nine female and male Sports Spot Athletes of the Month will be selected in the 2010-2011 academic year. The award is selected from qualified candidates each month by the athletic department staff.
