Tornados adjust date of Spring Game due to poor field conditionsApril 16, 2011
Brevard will hold final spring practice at Brevard High School
Brevard, N.C. - Due to poor field conditions, Brevard College Athletic Director Kim Pate and Head Football Coach Paul Hamilton have decided to adjust the date and the start time of the Youth Football Clinic back to 1:30 p.m., with start time of the BC Spring Football Game occuring at 3 p.m. at Brevard Memorial Stadium, located at Brevard High School on Sunday, April 17th.
The Spring Game at Brevard Memorial Stadium is a stepping stone in the process as the BC Athletic Department is working with the Board of Education to return BC Football home to Brevard, N.C. and Brevard Memorial Stadium.
"I want to thank Superintendant McDaris and Brevard High School Athletic Director, Kerry Putnam for offering the opportunity to play our spring game at the Brevard Memorial Stadium despite us not having all the details sorted out within the contract negotiation for next year," commented Pate. "I am encouraged by the productive conversations that have taken place to bring BC football back to Brevard and feel confident in the willingness of both parties to partner together for the best interest of our community youth and students as it relates to shared facility usage moving forward."
In addition to the Spring Game, Coach Hamilton, the BC football coaching staff and the BC football team will be holding a free youth football clinic to all kids 8th grade and under from 2:30 – 3:15 p.m. The participants will work with the coaching staff and BC players on the proper techniques for the different football positions, as well as other activities.
"Transylvania County's Pop Warner Association would like to express its gratitude for the support of Brevard College and its athletic program on behalf of our staff, parents and most importantly the young players," said Cherie Goldsmith, Transylvania Association President of Pop Warner YMCA of Western North Carolina. "This investment in the youth of our county cannot be measured in dollars as it will serve as a reminder to these kids as they progress that anything is possible. The 2011 Pop Warner season will be kicking off in early August and once again Brevard College has agreed to allow us the use of their grounds and all of us who are affiliated with Pop Warner's Transylvania County Association would like to express our deepest gratitude for the support of Brevard College. We look forward to working side by side with Brevard College again this year."
Additional Spring Football game day activities including face painting, various games, and opportunities to cheer with the BC Cheerleading squad. Concessions and various other offerings will be available.
"Our football team and coaching staff are truly excited about the opportunity to play in Brevard and finish our spring practice at Brevard Memorial Stadium," said Coach Hamilton. "We appreciate all the support we continue to receive from the community and we’ll enjoy being back with all of our fans on April 17th."
Admission to the 2011 BC Spring Blue & White Football Game is free and Brevard College hopes all will attend and participate in the many activities planned for the day. Brevard College plans to develop the fun-filled afternoon into an annual community event for all Brevard community members, students and family to enjoy.
