Tornados take Team Time Trial at Mars Hill
Trio of BC riders finish in the top six in Road Race
Mars Hill, N.C. - The Tornados joined in conference action at Mars Hill this past weekend, with Lewis Gaffney, Caleb Welborn and Brandon Milet leading the way in the road race, finishing fourth, fifth and sixth overall in the Men’s B Group as the Tornados competed at Mars Hill.
Brevard’s team led off the day with the team time trial, with Coach Thad Walker’s top group finishing third overall with a time of 29:04:94. The B Group however took home the prize, finishing first overall in their flight with a time of 30:15:61 to give Brevard their first win of the two day event.
Heading into the road race, Corey Meyer led the way for Brevard in the men’s A group, recording another top 10 finish on the season by coming in eighth overall. Bryan Underwood and Scott Hoffner finished back-to-back in 21st and 22nd. However, due to conditions in the Men’s A Group, several Brevard riders were unable to complete the course.
In the men’s B group, Gaffney, Welborn and Milet finished fourth, fifth and sixth overall, behind a trio of riders from Lees-McRae.
Marshal Hartley led the charge in Sunday’s Criterium, recording his first top 10 finish in the 2011 road season, finishing 10th overall in the men’s A groupl. Bryan Underwood was also in the top 20, crossing the finish line 17th overall. Milet was the lone BC rider in the B group, finishing 13th in the event.
The Tornados are back in action next weekend as they travel to Bristol, Tenn. to take part of the two day event hosted by King College.
