Tornados battle through the field at the Lenoir-Rhyne Invitational
Women place sixth, men seventh in Brevard's second race of the season
Hickory, N.C. - The Brevard College men’s and women’s cross country teams took part in the Lenoir-Rhyne Invitational on Saturday morning as they entered the stretch of their 2011 season, with the men’s team placing seventh overall, while the women placed sixth.
Josh Mower led the Tornados men’s cross country team to a seventh place finish, crossing the line 22nd overall with a time of 28:13.4 in the 8K event, while Jordan Tager and Jonathan Lavelle also recorded finishes in the top 35 to pace the BC men’s running efforts. Tager finished 32nd overall with a 28:59.4 time, while Lavelle was just 11 seconds off pace with a time of 29:11.8. Michael Allsopp crossed the line with a time of 29:25, while Chris Shore, Scott McCormick and Jourdane Landry rounded out the group of BC runners in the event.
On the women’s side, Madison Hill earned her first top 10 finish of the season, placing sixth overall in the 5K event, crossing the line with a time of 20:01.2, while Angela Canale narrowly missed in joining her in finishing 11th overall with a time of 20:26.8.
Olivia Fawcett placed 42nd overall in helping the Brevard College women’s cross country team to a sixth place finish at the Invitational and freshman Heidi Kaartinen crossed the line in 46th, while Ariel Muiselaar, Ashley Lowe and Grace Meanor also took on the field for Coach Jack Daniels.
The BC men’s and women’s cross country teams are back in action next weekend at the site of the 2011 Food Lion South Atlantic Conference Cross Country Championships, as they travel to Jefferson City, Tenn. to participate in the Carson-Newman Challenge. The Tornados will take on the field, with races beginning at 10 a.m.
