Brevard, N.C. - Ashlie Morrison had nine kills and Jamie Atkinson and Erin Rollins each had four blocks, but visiting Carson-Newman was led by 11 kills by Carly Swisher as the Tornados fell to the Eagles on Saturday afternoon in Boshamer Gymnasium, 25-20, 25-18, 25-16.

Ashley Ferris broke a deadlocked first set with a kill for Carson-Newman (9-6, 4-5 SAC) to give the Eagles the 20-19 advantage. After a BC (4-10, 0-7 SAC) attack error extended the lead to 21-19, Bethany Stevenson placed home the kill to cut into the lead. However, Swisher followed with back-to-back kills as the Eagles score the final four points to go up 1-0 after the 25-20 set victory.

Carson-Newman opened up the second set with a 9-4 run before a kill by Rollins brought the Tornados back in the game. Brevard was able to cut the lead back to within two at 17-15 as Taryn Gmitroski and Rollins combined on a block highlighting the 5-2 run, but Blair Fields served the Eagles to seven consecutive points and a kill by Nikki James closed out the set in favor of the visitors, 25-18.

In the deciding final set, the Eagles broke open a tied match as Ferris, Lauren Santarelli and Rachel Harper broke an 8-8 score with three straight kills. Back-to-back kills by Morrison brought the set back to within one, but the Tornados were unable to knot the score back up as Swisher closed out the match with a kill, clinching the 25-16 set victory.

The Tornados remain in South Atlantic Conference action as they travel to Tusculum College on Tuesday, October 4th. The match will be a Dig for the Cure event with proceeds going to the Susan G. Komen Foundation. First serve between the Pioneers and the Tornados is set for 7 p.m.
