Rogers records 12 digs in loss to Pioneers
Greeneville, Tenn. - Lindsey Rogers led the Tornados with 12 digs and Jordei Osby, Jamie Atkinson and Kortney Conner led the BC attack, but Sam Underwood recorded a match high 10 kills and Bailee Price recorded eight as the Tornados fell in Pioneer Arena on Tuesday evening, 25-16, 25-14, 25-11.
The Pioneers (13-4, 6-3 SAC) opened the first set breaking a 3-all tie on a kill by Bailee Price as the hosts went on a 17-6 run as they built a 20-9 lead following Georgia Paturalski’s kill. The Tornados (4-11, 0-8 SAC) battled back with a block by Jordei Osby and a pair of kills by Sawyer Gray as they cut the score to 22-16, but Paturalski added another kill and Price closed out the set with back-to-back points as Tusculum went up after the 25-16 set victory.
Brevard knotted up the second set at 5 apiece on a service ace by Lindsey Rogers, but the Pioneers went on another run, building a 16-9 lead before a kill by Jamie Atkinson ended the Tusculum momentum. The Tornados continued to battle in the set, keeping the score within single digits before a kill by Brianna Anderson closed out the set 25-14 in favor of the Pioneers.
A solo block by Taryn Gmitroski tied the final set up at 9 apiece, but the Pioneers went on a 13-1 run capped by five Pioneers blocks and a service ace by Melanie Gibson as Tusculum built a 22-10 lead as the closed out the final stanza, 25-11
Brevard returns home to Boshamer Gymnasium as they start the second half of their South Atlantic Conference schedule as they welcome Mars Hill College on Friday, October 7th. First serve between the Tornados and the Lions is set for 7 p.m.
