Moore, Ford, Cameron and Conner commit to playing at BC next season
Brevard, N.C. - Volleyball Coach Brenda Skeffington, in conjunction with the Brevard College Athletic Department, is pleased to announce Taylor Moore, Sarah Ford, Camille Cameron and Karey Conner have committed to come to Brevard College and play for the Tornados in the 2012 volleyball season.
Moore, a 5-7 defensive specialist, comes to Brevard from Mills River, N.C. and West Henderson High School where she played under Coach Tiffany Lawrence. While with Falcons, Moore was a two-time All-Conference and All-Area player, earning honors in both her junior and senior seasons. Moore recorded 861 digs, 332 kills and 96 service aces over her final two seasons with West Henderson. Off the courts, she was a member of the 2010 A/B Honor Roll. She is the daughter of Rick and Beverly Moore.
"Taylor Moore is one of the hardest working athletes that I have seen in a long time," said Skeffington. "I had a chance to see her train before practices and serve baskets of volleyballs on her own time before club practices. She knows what it takes to win and comes from a winning tradition at West Henderson. I expect her to step in to a defensive specialist position right away."
Ford, a 5-10 setter, comes to Brevard from Montgomery, Ala. and Alabama Christian Academy where she played under Coach Manuel Guice. While with the Eagles, Ford was a three-time All-Metro Player and 3-time Class 4A All-State Selection. On the court, she was a three-time assist leader on the team, led the team in aces twice and also led the Eagles to the Alabama Elite 8 in each of the past three seasons. Off the court, she is a member of the Spanish National Honor Society. She is the daughter of Glenn and Melissa Ford.
"Ford is a very confident, talented setter with beautiful hands," said Skeffington. "She comes from a winning program at Alabama Christian Academy where she ran the offense. Every time I saw Sarah last spring, she got better and better and worked very hard to jump higher blocking at the net. She will be a valuable asset to our team."
Cameron, a 5-10 outside hitter, comes to Brevard from McDonough, Ga. and Union Grove High School where she played under Coach Laurie Sponsler. Cameron was named the Decatur Tournament MVP in her junior year with the Broncos and made strides in her senior season as she was named to the 4A All-Area Team, leading the team to the Regional Championship and to the Georgia Sweet 16. Cameron was also a member of the Broncos Tennis team where she was named MVP and was a Henry County Athlete of the Year nominee. Off the court, she was a four year member of the Honor Roll and a member of the National Honor Society. She is the daughter of DeChane and Anita Cameron.
"I am thrilled to sign Camille Cameron- she is extremely athletic and explosive outside hitter with a great vertical jump who can terminate the ball," commented Skeffington. "She has a very good jump serve; she is hard working and very coachable. She is also one of the most polite young ladies that I have met and she will be a strong role model. I can't wait to work with her and expect her to be an impact player in our program."
Conner, a 5-8 outside hitter/defensive specialist, comes to Brevard from Franklin, N.C. and Franklin High School. She played on the Winning in Christ club team in 2009 and Xcel Sportsplex 17’s last winter in Arden, N.C. She also played on the same club team as Moore under Coach Dave McKinley. She is the sister of current BC volleyball player Kortney Conner, and is the daughter of Gregg and Shelly Conner.
"I am very excited to have Karey in our program," said Skeffington. "She brings a high level of consistency, commitment and maturity along with a winning tradition."
The Tornados are members of the NCAA Division II and the South Atlantic Conference.
