Brevard College Blanked by Belmont Abbey 4-0

Belmont, N.C. – The Brevard College women’s soccer was back in action on Monday afternoon, as the Tornados lost on the road to the Crusaders of Belmont Abbey 4-0 in non-conference action at Alumni Field in Belmont, N.C.

With the loss the Tornados fall to 4-7 on the year, while the Crusaders, who unbeaten in their last 21 matches, improve to 7-0-2 with the win.

Four Belmont Abbey players scored goals as the Crusaders controlled the match for most of the 90 minutes of play, outshooting the Tornados 21-0 and holding a 7-0 advantage in corner kicks.

The Crusaders first goal came in the 23rd minute of the first half, as Nicole Voets sent a pass down the center of the field to Connie Axiotis, who got behind the defense and beat BC freshman goalkeeper Jordan Box for the goal.

Shortly before intermission, the Crusaders made it 2-0 on a combination from Amanda Maddock to Celene Molera.  Maddock sent a pass from the right flank to the left goalpost, where Molera headed home the pass for her team-leading eighth goal of the year.

Belmont Abbey added two more goals in the second half – Voets in the 67th minute and Erika Trivisonno with only 56 seconds left in the contest to come away with the 4-0 victory.

BC goalkeeper Box had seven saves as she was bombarded with 21 shots for the game.

The Tornados will jump back into South Atlantic Conference play on Thursday, October 2, as BC will travel to Harrogate, Tenn. to take on the Lady Railsplitters of Lincoln Memorial University.  The game time is slated for 4 p.m.  Belmont Abbey will play host to Anderson University at noon on Saturday, October 4.
