Brevard looks to build off of successful 2011 playoff campaign
Brevard, N.C. - Coach Britne Stubbs and the Brevard College Softball team are pleased to announce the release of the 2012 Tornados Softball schedule, in conjunction with the Brevard College Athletic Department.
The Tornados are coming off the most successful season since the program became members of the NCAA Division II and the South Atlantic Conference, finishing with a 29-21 record, 15-7 in home games at the BC Softball field. Brevard also made the Food Lion SAC tournament for the second time under Coach Stubbs, defeating second-seed Carson-Newman in the first round of the tournament.
This season, the schedule will feature 18 home games in Brevard, N.C., while the Tornados will take to the road 26 times. Brevard will also take part in the Limestone tournament, hosted by Limestone College, and will also be present in the FMU Round Robin tournament hosted by Francis Marion University.
Brevard opens the 2012 regular season on the road with a pair of doubleheaders against Virginia Intermont and Johnson C. Smith on February 5th and February 9th, before welcoming Belmont Abbey and Virginia Intermont to the campus of Brevard College over the weekend of February 11th and 12th for the Tornados home openers.
Starting on February 18th, the Tornados begin a month-long road trip starting with non-conference games against Pfeiffer and Milligan, before taking part in the Limestone tournament on February 25th. Road contests against Young Harris, Georgia College & State lead into the FMU Round Robin on March 4th and the Tornados wrap up their trip at St. Andrews and Lander before opening conference play at Mars Hill on March 10th.
Doubleheaders against conference opponents Anderson and Lincoln Memorial and a pair of games against Johnson C. Smith give the Tornados a brief respite from their travel logs, before the Tornados are back on the road against Catawba in SAC action.
Brevard finishes up the month of March with SAC games against Tusculum and Wingate at home, sandwiching a road trip to Newberry.
The month of April opens with a trip to Hickory, N.C. to take on Lenoir-Rhyne University on April 6th, and the Tornados finish up the regular season with home doubleheaders against USC Aiken and Carson-Newman, before ending on the road against Winston-Salem State.
The 2012 Food Lion South Atlantic Conference tournament begins on April 19th, hosted this year by Tusculum College in Greenville, Tenn.
