Brevard dots multiple categories in the NCAA Division II leaders
Brevard, N.C. - With the latest NCAA Baseball Statistical rankings released this afternoon, the Brevard College baseball team saw names in almost every category, led by top 20 individual appearances in batting average, hits and RBIs, as the Tornados are second in the NCAA Division II in hits on the season with 482 on the year.
In the team categories, the Tornados, who lead the South Atlantic Conference in batting average, are ranked 12th in the nation with a .336 average on the year. Brevard currently chases SAC foe Wingate University in the hit rankings, sitting five hits behind the national leader Bulldogs as Brevard had 482 hits on the season as a team. Brevard is currently third among SAC schools in runs scored on the season, sitting fifth overall among all schools in Division II with 310 runs crossing the plate on the season.
Brevard is also in the top 10 in two more team categories, sitting fifth overall in the NCAA in double plays turned on the season with 41, and is ninth among the 240 NCAA Division II schools with 23 sacrifice fly balls on the year.
Brevard also is among the leaders in home runs and walks drawn on the season, sitting 21st in the nation in home runs with 29 on the season, while ranking 15th overall in base on balls with 169 walks the Tornados batters have coaxed out this year.
Individually, riding a 12-game hitting streak, Champ Stuart took the lead in the SAC batting race this week and is currently ranked 11th in the nation in batting average as the sophomore outfielder from Bimini, Bahamas is hitting .449 on the year. Stuart is also 31st in the nation in on-base percentage, reaching base at a 0.514 clip on the year.
Tarron Robinson is 11th in the nation in runs batted in, driving in 45 Tornados on the season. The senior first baseman from Chapel Hill, N.C. is also among the nation’s leaders in home runs (7 on the season, 39th in the rankings), walks (26 on the season, 43rd in the rankings) and total bases (85 on the season, 41st in the rankings)
Eric Renegar is also among the nation’s leaders in the hits category, sitting 19th overall in the nation with 58 hits on the year, while four other BC hitters are ranked in the top 65 in the nation.
