Tornados close out fall season with victories over Covenant and Milligan
Brevard, N.C. - The Brevard College women’s tennis team was in action this past weekend, defeating visiting Covenant College on Friday and Milligan College on Saturday, to go 2-0 for the weekend.
On Friday, taking on the Scots of Covenant College, the Tornados swept the doubles matches, with top doubles pair, Kayley Duval and Lindsay Hostetter defeating Julia Meyers and Catherine Ramage, 8-3. The second doubles pairing was more of the same as BC’s Kim Dixon and Lindsay Shaeffer handled Jane Sizemore and Casey Cochran, 8-1. The third doubles pair completed the sweep as the Tornados duo of Jennifer Nyman and Merek Slagle defeated Stephanie Sizemore and Jane Shibley, 8-4.
In the singles matches on Friday, the two Lindsays took care of business as Shaeffer defeated Meyers 6-1, 6-3, and Hostetter downed Cochran 6-2, 6-0. The Scots fought back in the last four singles matches as Ramage defeated Duval, 2-6, 7-5 (10-4), Jane Sizemore defeated Nyman 7-5, 7-5, Stephanie Sizemore defeated Slagle 6-3, 7-6 (10-4), and Shibley defeated Emily Barrick, 6-0, 6-0.
In Saturday’s action against Milligan, doubles action was the same as the Tornados swept the Buffalos from the court. Duval and Hostetter defeated Caitlin Conley and Jessie Rose Remegi, 8-3, while Dixon and Shaeffer topped Albany Kelly and Sara Hopson in the second doubles match, 8-1. Nyman and Slagle finished off the sweep as they narrowly defeated Janie Mullins and Heather Bell, 9-7.
Singles play was largely dominated by the women’s tennis team as Shaeffer topped Milligan’s number one Conley, 6-3, 6-1. Hostetter overpowered Kelly, 6-1, 6-2, while Duval defeated Remegi in straight sets, 6-1, 6-1. Kim Dixon added a victory in her match against Hopson, 6-4, 6-2. Mullins recorded the solo victory of the day for the Buffaloes against Brevard’s Nyman, 7-6, 7-5. Sara Douglas closed out the day for the Tornados with a win over Laura Bowman, 6-3, 3-6, 10-4.
The Tornados are finished up with their fall season and look forward to the spring when they start up with their first match at North Georgia College and State on February 11.
