BC Comes Up Short in Home Opener

The Tornados, though, answered with a touchdown on the following drive. Brevard took 12 plays to drive 70 yards for the score, capped off by a 10-yard touchdown run by Jordan Ollis. The Panthers retained a 7-6 lead after Ben Noboa missed the PAT attempt.
Ollis rushed for 50 yards to lead the Tornados, who rushed for 156 yards as a team. Derek Church rushed for 42 yards on eight carries before leaving the game with an injury in the first quarter.
After the BC defense forced a three-and-out on the next drive, the Tornados got the ball at their own 23 yard line. Ty Jeter fumbled a pitch from quarterback Aaron Reese on the first play of the drive, which Virginia Union’s Dominique Anderson recovered at the BC 19.

Virginia Union had an opportunity to extend their lead in the second quarter after a 68-yard drive put the Panthers at the BC 12-yard line, but a 27-yard field goal attempt by Andrew Velazquez missed wide right.
Velazquez would eventually give the Panthers a 17-6 lead, connecting for a 37-yard field goal with 2:06 remaining in the first half.
Overholt returned the ensuing kickoff 17 yards to the BC 21, giving Reese and the Brevard offense an opportunity to test their two-minute offense. Reese and wide receiver Eric Watts connected for 51 yards on the six-play drive that culminated in a Reese-to-Watts 22-yard touchdown pass with :09 remaining in the half.
The extra point made it a 17-14 lead for the Panthers going into halftime.
BC wasn’t able to get much going offensively in the second half, and punted after failing to convert a 3rd and 3 at their own 47 to open the half.
Washington scored his fourth and final touchdown on a two-yard run at the 13:41 mark in the 4th quarter, finishing an 87-yard drive to give the Panthers a 31-14 lead.
The loss brought the Tornados record to 0-2 on the season. BC opens South Atlantic Conference play on Saturday, September 15th at Mars Hill at 1 p.m.
