Men's Soccer Ties USC Aiken

Brevard, N.C.- The Tornados battled the Pacers for 90 minutes of regulation and two ten-minute overtime periods to earn a 1-1 tie at home on Saturday afternoon.

USC Aiken’s Scott Newby struck first in the game, giving the Pacers a 1-0 lead on an unassisted goal at the 24:07 mark.

Junior Montano scored the tying goal as he beat the goalie high to the left corner from the 18 yard box in the 42nd minute.

Stellar defense from both sides would keep the game scoreless for the duration of regulation and 20 minutes of overtime. Junior goalkeeper Pauli Jussila was stellar, playing all 110 minutes in goal and recording a season-high eight saves in the match.

The Tornados finished with nine shots in the game, including five on goal. Montano, Landon Reid, Efren E. Escobar, Garrett Stone and Jami Uuttu all put shots on goal against a pair of Pacer keepers in Brandon Jarosz and Joshua Poissant. Each goalie recorded a pair of saves.

The Tornados open South Atlantic Conference play on Tuesday on the road against Tusculum Pioneers at 6 p.m.
