BC Cycling Team Opens 2012 Season

Johnson City, Tenn. - The Brevard College Cycling team opened up the 2012 Fall Mountain Bike season this past weekend at East Tennessee State University.

The men's A downhill  race saw Dan Ennis and Mac Banner putting in stellar performances to claim 1st and 2nd place, respectively, while  Erica Zaveta attacked the course in her first downhill event of the year to take 1st in the women's A race.

The rest of the Brevard gravity team put forth strong rides in their new Troy Lee Design Downhill kits.

Saturday afternoon's short track saw Zaveta taking the win for the A women, and Nicole Miranda placing 2nd in the B women's race. The B men from Brevard dominated their short track, with Caleb Welborn taking the win, followed by Spencer Lowden, Brandon Milet, and Blake Stephenson in 2nd, 3rd, and 5th, respectively. Next up was the A men, where Lewis Gaffney took 2nd place, followed by teammate Cypress Gorry, who had a strong top 10 finish.

Sunday's cross country races saw Gaffney take another strong 2nd, with Gorry and Ennis riding to top 10 results in the men's A race. Lowden scored his first Tornado win in the B race, with Stephenson finishing 4th, Welborn 5th, and Milet in the top ten. Zaveta took another dominating win for the A women, with Miranda following with a win of her own in the B race. Dylan Brown tackled his first mountain bike race with a strong top five finish in the men's C. Later in the day Brown and Zaveta raced to 2nd in each of their 4-­Cross A races. Stephenson put in a solid 4-­Cross ride in the men's B event.
