BC Falls in Straight Sets to Lenoir-Rhyne

Hickory, N.C. – The Brevard College volleyball team returned to South Atlantic Conference action Tuesday evening in Shuford Memorial Gymnasium, falling in straight sets to the Bears of Lenoir-Rhyne, 25-8, 25-18, 25-19. 

Despite the final score of the first set, Brevard was right with Lenoir-Rhyne in the early going until the Bears closed the set on an 17-3 run.

Brevard picked it up in the second set, pulling within a point of the Bears at 17-16 on a Megan Clark kill. The Bears, however, responded by taking the next five points and later the set.

The Bears took control early in the final set, breaking a 5-5 tie on a Kayla Morrow kill and never looking back.

Lenior-Rhyne’s  Haley Rhyne led the way with a match-high 14 kills while Morgan Bunker added 11 kills and 13 digs. The win improved the Bears to 8-0 at home this season.

Meredith Lutz finished with 34 assists while Emily Culler added a team-high 15 digs for Lenoir-Rhyne, who also won its fifth consecutive match.

Megan Clark led the Tornados with six kills while Sydney Yeomans pitched in 17 digs on the evening. Kayla Hanus tallied 19 assists as well as the Tornados came off a pair of wins in the Brevard College Volleyball Tournament in Boshamer Gymnasium on Saturday.

BC returns to Boshamer Gymnasium to host Catawba College in a South Atlantic Conference match Friday, October 26th  at 6:30 p.m. Lenoir-Rhyne, meanwhile travels to Wingate, N.C., to face first-place Bulldogs on Friday night at 7:00 p.m.
