Andrade named Tornado Athlete of the Week
Senior won Wingate Pre-Conference Invitational on Thursday
Cross Country runner Alycia Andrade has been named Tornado Athlete of the Week for Week 8 of the 2008-09 athletic season. Andrade captured 44 of the 79 votes cast by visitors of BCTornados.com, or 55.7%.
The senior from Somerset, Mass. captured the Wingate Pre-Conference Invitational Thursday in Wingate, N.C. In a field that included runners from Wingate, Catawba, Francis Marion, North Greenville, Johnson C. Smith, and Guilford, Andrade broke the tape with a 5K time of 20:07. The victory is the first of Andrade's career.
For her accomplishment, Andrade also garnered SAC Female Runner of the Week honors. She is the first Tornado athlete in any sport to win a weekly SAC award.
The Tornado Athlete of the Week is determined by a fan poll on the frontpage of BCTornados.com. Candidates for the Tornado Athlete of the Week award are announced and voting opens every Saturday night at 10 p.m. Voting closes on Tuesday morning at 10 a.m.
