Tornados Triumph on Senior DayNovember 10, 2012
Brevard, N.C.- The Brevard College Tornados sent their 2012 seniors off on a high note with a 27-13 victory over the Newberry Wolves in the season finale on Saturday afternoon at Brevard Memorial Stadium.
The Tornados scored 21 unanswered points on three consecutive drives in the second half to earn their first South Atlantic Conference victory of the season.
Jordan Ollis capped an 11-play, 70-yard drive with a two-yard touchdown drive with 7:22 remaining in the 3rd quarter to give the Tornados a 13-6 lead. Ollis finished the game with 127 yards on the ground to lead all rushers.
BC’s Billy Muscatello forced a fumble on Newberry’s ensuing drive that the Tornados recovered on the Wolves 47-yard line.
Brevard took only eight plays to get the ball into the end zone, with freshman Dominique Lesine running in for the touchdown on 2nd-and-goal from the 5-yard line. Ben Noboa’s kick attempt was wide to keep the game at 19-6.
The Tornados defense forced the Wolves to punt after a three-and-out on the drive following Lesine’s touchdown.
After Newberry’s Jojo Morris punted the ball into the end zone for a touchback, the Tornados moved the ball 80 yards in 10 plays for a touchdown. Jaquan Marsh found Andre Overholt with a 29-yard touchdown pass to cap the drive.
BC then converted a two-point conversion, with Overholt receiving the hand off and running right before passing to a wide-open Lesine in the end zone to make it 27-6.
The Wolves scored a touchdown to pull within 14 points with 2:26 remaining in the 4th quarter. Newberry then attempted an onside kick which the Tornados jumped on at the Newberry 46-yard line to seal the victory.
Senior defensive back Chris Jones gave the Tornados a 6-0 lead in the first quarter after intercepting a tipped pass from Newberry quarterback Michael Rentz and returning it 35-yards for a touchdown.
The pick by Jones was one of three turnovers forced by the Tornados, including the fumble recovery that led to the Lesine touchdown and a 4th-quarter interception by fellow senior Jarvis Wilson.
The victory marks the first time the Tornados have beaten Newberry College in program history after losing the first six matchups. The Tornados finish the season at 2-9 (1-6).
