Eagles Outlast BC in SAC OpenerNovember 28, 2012
Jefferson City, Tenn.- The Brevard College Tornados dropped the South Atlantic Conference opener 81-62 to the Carson-Newman Eagles in Holt Field House on Wednesday night.
The Tornados opened the second half on a 7-3 run to make it a one-possession game before an Antoine Davis three-pointer pushed Carson-Newman’s lead to six points.
Brevard remained within striking distance for most of the second half, cutting the Eagles deficit to four points on a Miles Leather layup with 10:11 remaining in the second half.
Carson-Newman, however, began to pull away late in the second half thanks to a 14-3 run to close the game. Ish Sanders turned in a game-high 24 points for the Eagles, and went 6-for-11 from three-point range.
The Eagles hit an impressive 11-of-24 (45.8%) shots from beyond the arc to help expand their lead early in the game.
Freshman Manzey Miller led the Tornados offensively, dropping 20 points on 7-of-15 shooting from the field. Leathers provided a spark off the bench for the Tornados, chipping in 13 points on 5-of-6 six shooting from the floor and a perfect 3-for-3 from the line.
Brevard held their own in the first half, using a 14-3 run to close the second half to pull within seven at 41-34 going into halftime.
The Tornados will host the Mars Hill Lions on Saturday, December 1st at 6 p.m. for their SAC home opener.
