Second Half Comeback Upends Tornados
Brevard, N.C.- The Brevard College men's basketball team struggled in the second half in a 69-67 loss to the Fayetteville State Broncos in Boshamer Gymnasium on Sunday afternoon.
The Broncos erased a 12-point halftime deficit with a 20-3 run to open the second half, taking their largest lead of the game at 51-46 on three-pointer from Anthony Shelton with 13:07 left in the game.
The Tornados tied the game twice following the Fayetteville State run out of the break, eventually regaining the lead 67-66 on a three-pointer from Dominique Pickett at 2:07.
Shelton responded with what turned out to be the game-winning three with 1:48 left in the game to seal the Broncos comeback win. Shelton went 4-for-8 from beyond the arc en route to a 14-point performance for FSU, who were paced offensively by 18 points from Louis Craft.
The Tornados were unable to score in their two possessions following the basket by Shelton, including a Gerel Simmons jump shot for the tie that missed at the final buzzer.
Simmons led all scorers with 20 points off the bench for BC, shooting 7-of-12 from the floor while pulling down six rebounds. Pickett finished with 10 points and six rebounds, while Manzey Miller chipped in 10 points and four assists.
BC shot an impressive 54.5% (12-for-22) from three-point range in the game, but were outscored 34-16 in the paint.
The Tornados are back in action as they host the Erskine College Flying Fleet in Boshamer Gymnasium at 7 p.m. on New Year’s Day.
