BC Comeback Not EnoughJanuary 19, 2013
Wingate, N.C.- The Brevard College women's basketball team used a 22-9 run in the second half to erase an 11-point halftime deficit, but fell just short in a 63-59 loss to the Wingate Bulldogs in Cuddy Arena on Saturday afternoon.
With the Tornados down 61-57 and less than a minute remaining, BC's Micheala Watkins picked the pocket of Wingate guard Sarah Wollett and fed the ball to Shelby Wolfe for a fastbreak layup with 36 seconds left.
Brevard immediately fouled, sending Wingate's Sharee Boyd to the line for a one-and-one. Boyd missed the front end but the Bulldogs gathered the rebound and Janitsha Williams drew a foul for the Bulldogs with :15 left in the game.
Williams hit both free throws to push WU's lead to four and put the Tornados away for good.
Shelby Wolfe dropped a career-high 17 points to lead a BC attack that saw four Tornados score in double figures. Tempestt Mack posted a double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds.
The Tornados evened the score at 51-51 with 5:40 reamining in the game after trailing by as many as 13 in the second half.
Freshman Tuccoa Brackett finished with 15 points and seven rebounds, while Watkins finished with 13 points, four assists and three steals.
The Tornados return to Boshamer Gymnasium on Wednesday to host the Wolves of Newberry College at 6 p.m. The Bulldogs, meanwhile, are at Anderson on Wednesday night.
