Wolves Grind Past BC
Brevard, N.C.- The Brevard College women's basketball team fell 65-55 to the Newberry Wolves in South Atlantic Conference Action in Boshamer Gymnasium on Wednesday night.
The Tornados effectively applied pressure to Newberry ball handlers all night, forcing the Wolves into 20 turnovers. Asheley Watkins led the way with a career-high seven steals.
The Tornados, however, couldn't keep Newberry from establishing their presence in the paint. The Wolves scored 32 of their 65 points in the paint, and held a 46-24 advantage on the glass.
Haylee Lepaio tallied a 17-point, 16 rebound double-double to lead the the Wolves to a 5-2 start in league play. The 6'2" sophomore shot 7-of-15 from the floor on the night.
Samantha Creed, at 5-foot-10, also had success offensively for the Wolves. The redshirt freshman had a team-high 18 points to go with seven rebounds and five assists.
Brevard freshman Tuccoa Brackett led all scorers with 23 points, but the Tornados struggled to get in a rhythm offensively. No other Tornado scored in double figures.
The Tornados continue their three-game home stand as they host the Anderson University Trojans on Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m. Newberry, meanwhile, will host the Tusculum Pioneers on Saturday.
