Brackett and Simmons Named December Sports Spot Student-Athletes of the Month

Brevard, N.C. – Tuccoa Brackett of the women’s basketball team and Gerel Simmons of the men’s basketball team have been named the Sports Spot Student-Athletes of the Month for December. The award is presented by Sports Spot, in conjunction with the Brevard College Athletic Department.
Brackett was voted the Female Student-Athlete of the Month by the BC Head Coaching staff over teammates Micheala and Asheley Watkins.
Brackett wins her first career Athlete of the Month award after helping the Tornados down Mars Hill on December 1st with a game-high 19 points and a career-high 5 blocks. Brackett then led BC in scoring against Young Harris on December 2nd, and chipped in 17 points and six rebounds in the December 8th win over Lees-McRae.
Simmons was voted the Men’s Student-Athlete of the Month by the BC Head Coaching staff over fellow teammates Miles Leathers and Dominique Pickett.
Simmons is a first-time winner of the Athlete of the Month honors after leading the Tornados in scoring for the month, averaging 22.8 points per game in December. The sophomore hit the game-winning three pointer as time expired to lift BC over Mars Hill on December 1st. The sophomore scored a career-high 31 points in the win over Lees-McRae in December 8th.
These two athletes will be presented with action shots recognizing their award, which will be displayed in the lobby of Boshamer Gymnasium for the entire school year. A total of eight female and male Sports Spot Athletes of the Month will be selected in the 2012-2013 academic year. The award is selected from qualified candidates each month by the athletic department staff.
