Bears Edge BC in Non-Conference Action
Brevard, N.C. – The Brevard College baseball team dropped a 9-8 contest with the Lenoir-Rhyne Bears on Wednesday afternoon in non-conference action at Gil Coan Field.
The Bears engineered a four-run 7th to turn an 8-5 deficit into a 9-8 lead, highlighted by Rai Robinson's two-run homer that gave L-R the one-run lead.
Ivan Vieitez (S, 2) retired the Tornados in order in the 9th after leading off the 7th with a solo homer to bring L-R to within two runs at 8-6. Logan Senelis-Jose followed with an RBI single to make it a one-run game before the Robinson round tripper.
L-R took a 5-0 lead in the top of the 1st before BC scored eight unanswered runs over the first six innings to take an 8-5 advantage when Bennett Hixson scored on an error in the 6th.
Hixson led the way for the Tornados with three hits and a pair of RBI’s while Cody Queen drove in three runs, including a two-run double that gave BC a 7-5 lead in the 5th
Thomas Brown (L, 0-1) was saddled with the loss after allowing the go-ahead homer in the 7th. The lefty worked two innings out of the pen for BC, allowing one run on two hits and a walk while striking out a pair of Bears.
Brevard visits Anderson this weekend for a three-game series with the Trojans beginning on Friday at 6:00 p.m.
