BC looks to rebound Wednesday against Tusculum
BREVARD, N.C.- Despite eight Brevard College players taking a shot, the Tornados fell to Lincoln Memorial, 1-0, thanks to a goal in the 87th minute Saturday afternoon in South Atlantic Conference action at Brevard Soccer Field in Brevard, N.C.
The Railsplitters (4-4-1, 2-2-1 SAC) defeated BC for the fifth consecutive time while picking up their second road win of the year. The Tornados (2-7, 0-4 SAC) dropped their sixth straight and was shutout for the first time since Sept. 19.
“They worked really hard and they stayed disciplined and stuck to the game plan,” said assistant coach Bradley Morrison of the BC squad.
The match proved to be a see-saw battle while both teams took five shots in the first half.
LMU scored the first and only goal of the match in the 85th minute when Nathaniel Johnson recovered a loose ball upon a plethora of players inside the box and squeaked one past the outstretched arms of Heath Turner.
The Railsplitters Leonardo da Silva led both teams with five shots while BC’s Daniel Wheldon, Ryan Vandenberg, Jami Uuttu and Adam Martin tallied two apiece. Martin struck a header in the 70th minute that clanked off the crossbar.
Turner finished the match with a pair of saves while his counterpart, Marcel Barwenietz, tallied four. BC outshot LMU, 12-11, but the Railsplitters held a 7-4 advantage in corner kicks.
The Tornados return to action Wednesday at 4:30 p.m. when they welcome Tusculum in a South Atlantic Conference match at Brevard Soccer Field in Brevard, N.C.
