Soga and McPhillips Named September Sports Spot Student-Athletes of the Month
BREVARD, N.C. – Yuki Soga of the women’s soccer team and Ryan McPhillips of the men’s soccer team have been named the Sports Spot Student-Athletes of the Month for September. The award is presented by Sports Spot, in conjunction with the Brevard College Athletic Department.
Soga was voted the Female Student-Athlete of the Month by the BC Head Coaching staff over Erica Zaveta of the cycling team and Hannah Cook of the cross country team.
The junior wins her first career Athlete of the Month award after leading the team in goals and points in September, including both goals in a 2-1 win over Erskine on September 7th.
McPhillips was voted the Men’s Student-Athlete of the Month by the BC Head Coaching staff over Kelvin Jeter of the football team and Cypress Gorry of the cycling team.
McPhillips wins his first career Athlete of the Month award after leading the team in goals and points in September, including goals in three consecutive games (9/22, 9/25, 9/27).
These two athletes will be presented with action shots recognizing their award, which will be displayed in the lobby of Boshamer Gymnasium for the entire school year. A total of eight female and male Sports Spot Athletes of the Month will be selected in the 2013-2014 academic year. The award is selected from qualified candidates each month by the athletic department staff.
