Mower, DeLisle Power Men to Fourth Place Finish at SAC Championship

BC women grabbed sixth

BLACK MOUNTAIN, N.C. – The Brevard College men’s cross country team claimed a fourth-place finish at the South Atlantic Conference Cross Country Championships while senior Josh Mower earned all-conference recognition and freshman Marc DeLisle claimed a spot on the all-freshman team Saturday morning on the campus of Montreat College in Black Mountain, N.C.

Mower’s fourth-place finish is the highest in school history at the SAC Championship on the men’s side and marks the second straight season a Tornado has earned all-conference recognition (Patrick Helmick). Mower completed the 8K in an impressive time of 26:07.3.

“Individually, its’ been a long trip coming back from injuries,” said Mower. “I feel proud and honored to be wearing a Tornados uniform.”

The men’s team finished fourth overall with 117 points, nearly missing third place by four points. The finish is the best ever for BC since joining the SAC.

Freshman DeLisle didn’t disappoint while he claimed a top-20 finish with a mark of 27:21.7 to clinch a spot on the all-freshman team. Helmick enjoyed a top-30 finish while completing the course in 27:51.5 to claim a 27th place finish.

Queens’ Felix Duchampt claimed the individual title while conquering the course in 25:18.0 while Mars Hill won its unprecedented 17th consecutive men’s title.

BC’s women’s team matched its best finish since joining the SAC while grabbing sixth overall. The Tornados also finished sixth last season in the championship.

“We’ve come a long way,” said first-year head coach Adam Malloy. “It is a step forward and a step in the right direction.”

Wingate claimed the team championship while it placed the top-four finishers overall while Queens, Mars Hill, Anderson and Lenoir-Rhyne rounded out the top-five.

Wingate’s Keeley Wood notched consecutive individual SAC championship titles when she completed the 5K course in 18:47.3.

BC freshman Caroline Christiansen was the Tornados top finisher while she earned a 19th place finish with a mark of 20:26.6. Senior Angela Canale wrapped up her cross country career with a 29th place finish with a time of 21:02.2.

The freshman duo of Madison Smith and Elena Raygoza finished 40th and 43rd, respectively.

The Tornados will return to action Nov. 9 when they travel to McAlpine Creek Park for a second time this fall to participate in the NCAA DII Southeast Regional Championships.
