Men finished 16th while the women claimed 20th
CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Brevard College cross country teams wrapped up its seasons while the men claimed a 16th place finish and the women placed 20th, overall, at the NCAA Division II Southeast Regional at McAlpine Creek Park in Charlotte, N.C. Saturday morning.
Senior Josh Mower wrapped up an impressive season and career when he finished 34th with a time of 33:03.4 in the men’s 10K. Freshman Marc DeLisle completed a strong run while claiming a 71st place finish in 34:19.9. Senior Jordan Tager wasn’t far behind, 78th, with a time of 34:32.2.
Senior Erik Gibbs had the fourth-fastest time on the team with a 35:14.7 performance.
Dylan Lafond of Mount Olive claimed the individual title with a time of 30:51.3 while his team won the overall championship with 53 points. BC finished 16th overall with 382 points. The Tornados bested South Atlantic Conference foes Anderson by 13 points, Newberry, Carson-Newman, Catawba and Coker by more than 275 points.
On the women’s side, Angela Canale led the Tornados with a 65th place finish with a time of 24:27.7 in the women’s 6K. Teammate Madison Smith completed the course in25:58.8 while junior Heidi Kaartinen needed 26:08.6.
Freshman Elena Raygoza and junior Ashley Lowe finished the course in 26:15.1 and 27:01.3, respectively.
The women’s team finished 20th with 597 points and bested SAC foe Catawba by 89 points. BC also finished in front of Lenoir-Rhyne, Tusculum, Coker and Carson-Newman.
Hannah Witt of King claimed the individual title with a 21:46.0 mark while Wingate won the team title with a 75-point performance.
The Tornados concluded their 2013 cross country slate under first-year head coach Adam Malloy. Malloy will lead the BC Track and Field squads in the spring of 2014.
