Ollis Ties School Record in Senior Day Victory

BREVARD, N.C.- Brevard College fullback Jordan Ollis tied a school record with five touchdowns in the Tornados 52-33 Senior Day victory over the Tusculum College Pioneers at Brevard Memorial Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Ollis rushed for four touchdowns and caught another in the win, tying a record held by Thadus Benton (2010) and Aaron Reese (2011).

The Tornados scored 21 unanswered points in the second half to turn a 20-17 deficit into a 38-20 lead on a 15-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Kevin Herbst to Andre Overholt with 11:34 left in the game.

The Pioneers had taken a 20-17 advantage on an Isaac Robinson six-yard touchdown run midway through the 3rd quarter before BC regained the lead 24-20 on an Ollis one-yard touchdown run.

Brevard’s Rommie Fairchild forced a fumble on Tusculum’s next drive, one of five forced turnovers for the BC defense, that was recovered by Devon Holmes at the Tusculum 47-yard line. The Tornados used six plays to go in front 31-20 on a 10-yard rushing touchdown by Kelvin Jeter.

Tusuculum’s ensuing drive was cut short when Michael Gruber intercepted TC quarterback Bo Cordell on the drive’s second play to set up the Overholt touchdown catch.

Cordell threw a pair of touchdown passes in the 4th quarter but the Tornados were able to hold off the Pioneer comeback with a pair of scores of their own, both touchdowns by Ollis. BC outscored the Pioneers 28-13 in the 4th quarter.

Ollis paced the Brevard ground attack with 131 yards on 31 carries, followed by Herbst and Jeter, who rushed for 93 and 71 yards, respectively. The Tornados picked up 303 yards on the ground for the afternoon.

Herbst also finished 4-for-5 through the air with 78 yards and a pair of touchdowns.

Ollis scored on a one-yard scamper on the game's opening drive to give BC a 7-0 advantage and cap a 61-yard drive. TC tied the game on their first drive before BC's Ben Noboa hit a 27-yard field goal and Ollis broke the goal line with a four-yard run to put BC in front 17-7.

The Tornados carried a 17-13 lead into the break.

Cordell, who broke the Division II record for career passing yards earlier this season, finished with 332 passing yards but was picked off three times by the Tornados.

The Tornados will conclude the 2013 season at Division I FCS Liberty University on Saturday. Kickoff against the Flames from Williams Stadium is set for 3:30 p.m.
