Brevard Inks Three for 2014 Season

BREVARD, N.C.- Brevard College volleyball coach Kelly Burdeau is pleased to announce that Erin Barr, Kathryn Beasley and Hannah Elmore have signed their National Letters of Intent to play volleyball for the Tornados next season.

“We are excited to announce these first three outstanding student-athletes as part of our freshman class,” stated head coach Kelly Burdeau. “Kathryn, Hannah, and Erin are very talented and will play a major role in our success over the next four years.”

Barr, a 5'6" setter, led Starmount High School to North Carolina 1A State Championships in 2010 and 2013. Barr was named the MVP of the State Championship match in 2013. The Hamptonville, N.C. native was the Rams Player of the Year as a senior and a four-time All-Conference selection.

Off the court, Barr was a member of the National Honor Society and the National Beta Club.

“Erin will bring maturity, experience, and knowledge of the game,” said Burdeau. “She is coachable, respectful, and coming off an impressive senior season that will only prepare her more to positively impact our team.  She is always working and competing.  Her impact on our program is going to be immediate.”

Beasley will join Brevard as an outside hitter from Mount Airy High School in Mount Airy, N.C., where she was named the Bears Team MVP all four seasons. Beasley was also a two-time All-Conference selection, and a standout in both basketball and track.

In the classroom, Beasley excelled as a three-time Honor Roll student.

“Kathryn is an exceptional athlete and elite jumper,” said Burdeau.   She, as a result of her tremendous work ethic, will have the ability to contribute early in her career.  She brings a desire and passion of the game to the court along with her talent.  She is the type of person that will be a great representative of Brevard College.”

Elmore, a six-foot outside hitter, lettered in volleyball for four seasons at Carson High School and garnered All-County and All-Conference selections. Elmore led the Cougars to North Carolina 3A Western Regional Championships and State Runner-ups in 2012 and 2013.

Elmore was also a four-year Honor Roll student, a member of the National Honor Society and High School Leadership Team.

“Hannah is a very competitive kid and has a ton of personality,” added Burdeau. “Her drive, enthusiasm and leadership will be great additions to the program.  She has a good arm swing and can hit a variety of shots.  She is going to provide a big presence at the net.  She is driven both on and off the court.”
