Tornados Topped at NewberryJanuary 18, 2014
NEWBERRY, S.C.- The Tornados cut a double-digit first-half deficit into a 66-61 game with 8:57 left in the second half before a Newberry run helped the Wolves to a 93-73 victory in Eleazer Arena on Saturday afternoon.
Brevard (3-11, 3-7 SAC) used a 12-4 run to pull within five points on a Wil Collins free throw before Newberry (11-3, 7-3 SAC) regained control of the game with 17 unanswered points.
Jake Pifer, who had five points during the BC run, did a little bit of everything for the Tornados. The sophomore had team-highs in rebounds (7) and assists (6) to go with eight points.
Trevon Shaw dropped a team-high 18 points to lead the Tornados, going 7-for-13 from the field and adding five rebounds.
Dominique Pickett also chipped in 16 points for BC after going 6-for-11 from the field, including 4-of-7 from three-point range. Harrison White finished with 11 points in 20 minutes off the bench for Brevard.
Dondray Walker had a game-high 19 points for Newberry after going for 4-for-5 from beyond the arc and 5-for-8 from the foul line. Mitch Riggs and Demarkus Smith both chipped in 15 for the Wolves.
Newberry held Darius Moose to eight points, the first time the redshirt junior hasn’t scored in double figures this season.
The Tornados return home on Wednesday night as they host the Anderson Trojans in Boshamer Gymnasium for a 6 p.m. tipoff. The Trojans handed BC a 94-71 loss in their first meeting this season on November 20th in Abney Athletic Center.
