Anderson Holds Off BC

BREVARD, N.C.-A late first-half run for Anderson University helped the Trojans to a 75-65 win over the Brevard College men’s basketball team in South Atlantic Conference action in Boshamer Gymnasium on Wednesday night.

The Trojans (12-5, 7-4 SAC) used an 11-2 run to close the first half and enter the break leading 37-20. Following a Darius Moose jumper that cut AU’s lead to 26-19, Brevard (3-12, 3-8 SAC) went without a field goal for the 3:54 left of the first half.

Moose finished with a game-high 22 points, and BC worked to reduce Anderson’s lead for most of the second half.

The Tornados came out of the break on an 11-4 run to make it a 10-point game, and eventually cut their deficit to eight points on a Moose layup at the 12:18 mark.

Anderson later answered with 10 straight points to go in front 62-44 with 6:38 left in the game. The Tornados responded with a run of their own, knocking Andeson’s lead back to single digits with 2:29 left in the game with a 16-6 run.

The halftime deficit turned out to be too much for BC to overcome, despite shooting 64.3 percent (18-for-28) in the second half.

Sophomore Jake Pifer had a season-high 16 points, hitting 6-for-8 from the floor and a perfect 3-for-3 from the three-point range. Miles Leathers added 11 points and matched his career-high of six assists. Dominique Pickett chipped in 10 for the Tornados.

The Tornados will look to make it two in a row on Saturday afternoon as they visit the Wingate Bulldogs (10-5, 7-4 SAC). Tipoff from Cuddy Arena is set for 4 p.m.
