Tornados Can't Catch RailsplittersJanuary 30, 2014
BREVARD, N.C. - The Brevard College women’s basketball team fell 76-59 to the Lincoln Memorial University Railsplitters in South Atlantic Conference action in Boshamer Gymnasium on Thursday night.
The Railsplitters (10-7, 9-4 SAC) used eight unanswered points midway through the second while BC (5-12, 4-9 SAC) was unable to score for a stretch of over two minutes to push the game out of BC’s reach. The run gave LMU a 17-point lead, and the Railsplitters lead remained in double digits for the rest of the contest.
Madison Lenox and Katie Williams both scored in double figures for BC, going for 13 and 12, respectively. Lenox added a team-high seven rebounds.
Early in the first half, the game kept an even pace between both teams. LMU took a 10-point lead at the 7:04 minute mark, forcing the Tornados to play from behind.
Brevard freshman Chelsea Turner assisted Madison Lenox for a three-pointer to cut the deficit to six at the 6:29 mark. A three from Turner on BC’s next possession made it a three-point game before LMU pushed their lead to 10 at the half.
Brevard put defensive pressure on the Railsplitters early in the second half, which helped BC convert 14 points off turnovers in the game. Katie Williams, Shelby Wolfe and Madison Lenox combined for four steals in the second half.
The Railsplitters never trailed in the game as Lincoln Memorial’s Haley Nelson and Samantha Satterlee combined for 33 points.
The Tornados will travel to Lenoir-Rhyne on Saturday afternoon for a 4 p.m. tipoff with the Bears in Shuford Memorial Gymnasium.
