BC's Pickett Named SAC Player of the Week
ROCK HILL, S.C. – Brevard College senior Dominique Pickett has been selected as the South Atlantic Conference men’s basketball Player of the Week, it was announced by the conference office on Tuesday. This week’s awards were pushed back a day to account for Monday’s weather-rescheduled games.
Pickett averaged 28 points, 4.5 assists and three rebounds as Brevard split games with Coker and Carson-Newman.
Pickett opened his week by scoring 27 points on 8-of-14 shooting on Saturday in an 88-84 BC win over Coker, including the go-ahead three-pointer with 26 seconds remaining in regulation. The guard also had a game-high seven assists in the contest.
He then went for 29 points on Monday in an 89-67 loss against Carson-Newman – a performance that included eight three-pointers.
"We're really happy for Dominique, he's definitely deserving of this award," said head coach Lee Burgess. "I know he's happy that he's been able to play at a high level here in his last few games."
On the season, Pickett is averaging 15.5 points per game, and his 56 made threes rank ninth in the SAC.
Pickett and the Tornados begin a two-game road trip as they as they visit Lincoln Memorial on Wednesday and Catawba on Saturday. The Tornados tipoff against the Railsplitters from Tex Turner Arena is scheduled for 8 p.m. on Wednesday night.
