BC Finishes 11th at Richard Rendleman InvitationalMarch 4, 2014
SALISBURY, N.C.-The Brevard College men’s golf team finished 11th in the 18-team field at the Richard Rendleman Invitational on Tuesday afternoon at the par-71, 6,665-yard Country Club of Salisbury.
Sami Vanni was the top performer for the Tornados, carding a 148 (+6) in the two-day event. The sophomore hit a 76 (+5) on Monday and improved to a 72 (+1) on Tuesday to finish tied for 11th with four other players, including Coker’s Christopher Fuga.
Oskar Lundgren turned in an impressive round on Tuesday for BC, carding a 72 (+1) after shooting an 82 (+11) on the first day. The freshman tied for 40th in a field of almost 90 golfers.
All five of Brevard’s golfers made improvements from Monday to Tuesday. Sebastian Strehl followed Monday’s 81 (+10) with a 76 (+5) on Tuesday. Diego Ortiz carded an 83 (+12) on the first day, but followed with a 76 (+5) on Tuesday while Luis Vega turned Monday’s 85 (+14) into an 82 (+11) on Tuesday.
The Tornados finished with a team score of 620, while Limestone College won the tournament with a team score of 598.
Other South Atlantic Conference schools to participate, other than Coker (3rd), included: Queens (5th), Wingate (6th), Lenoir-Rhyne (T-7th), Lincoln Memorial (T-12th), Carson-Newman (T-12th), Catawba (14th), Anderson (16th), and Tusculum (17th).
The men’s golf team returns to the links in two weeks as they enter the Pinehurst Challenge in Pinehurst, North Carolina on March 17-18th.
