Newberry Takes Game Three

NEWBERRY, S.C.-The Newberry Wolves scored in five different innings on their way to a 6-3 victory over Brevard College in the series finale on Sunday afternoon at the Smith Road Complex, completing the sweep after taking the first two games on Saturday.

The Tornados tied the game at 3-3 in the 6th on Matt Proffitt’s two-run triple before Newberry scored two in their half of the 6th and added an insurance run in the 7th.

The Wolves struck in the 1st on an Albert Bauer RBI single and made it 2-0 in the 2nd before BC scored in the top of the 5th. JD Chaplain (L, 1-2) allowed five earned runs over six innings on nine hits and three walks.

BC made it 2-1 in the 5th on Alex Bedenbaugh’s RBI groundout, but the Wolves responded in their half to push their lead back to two runs.

Daniel Nations (W, 2-1) tossed the final four innings for the Wolves, allowing two runs (one earned) on two hits and a walk while striking out five.

The Torados return home on Tuesday as they host North Greenville for a nonconference matchup with the Crusaders at 3 p.m.
