Tornados Control the Paint in 76-46 Win over Warren Wilson Monday Night

Swannanoa, N.C. – The Brevard College men’s basketball team picked up their third road win of the season on Monday night, defeating the Warren Wilson Fighting Owls 76-46 in Swannanoa, N.C.

With the win the Tornados improved to 4-1 overall on the season and complete the two-game sweep of the Owls in 2008-09.  The loss drops the Fighting Owls to 3-7 on the year.

The Owls hung tough with the Tornados in the first five minutes of play, as BC found themselves down one at 6-5 at the 15:33 mark.

Brevard then responded with a run of their own, as the Tornados went on a 15-0 run capped off by old fashion three-point play by redshirt junior Nathan Whitmire to go ahead 20-6.

The Tornados did not look back as they held a double-digit lead for the remainder of the opening half, taking a 40-25 lead into the break.

The second half started off as a mirror image of the first, as junior forward Jonathan Whitson had the opening basket off the half, putting the Tornados up by 17 points at 42-25.

Brevard used great defense and a strong inside and outside attack to pull ahead as much as 32 points in the second half.

The Tornados held Warren Wilson to 21 points in the second half on only seven made baskets, as the Owls shot 24.1 percent from the floor.

For the game, the Tornados out-rebounded Warren Wilson 43-24 and dominated around the basket, shooting 47.5 percent for the game, including outscoring the Owls in the post 43-12.

The bigs for the Tornados led the way, as senior Joseph Chilton had 17 points, while Sam Carlisle added 16 points and 11 rebounds.  Whitson went for his third double-double on the year, as he poured in 12 points and hauled in 11 rebounds for the game.

The Fighting Owls were led by Jermon Marsh, who had a game-high 21 points, while John Nelson had eight points and a team-high five rebounds.

The Tornados will open up their 2008-09 conference slate on Saturday, December 6, as BC travels to Greeneville, TN to take on the Pioneers of Tusculum College.  The game is the second part of a double-header and is slated to tip-off at 4 p.m.  Warren Wilson will next be in action tomorrow night, Tuesday, December 2 when the Owls will take on Crown College.
