Men's Tennis signs one for the spring semester

Brevard, N.C. - The Brevard College men’s tennis team is proud to announce Heikki Riikonen has signed a National Letter of Intent to continue his education at Brevard College starting in the spring semester of 2009.

Riikonen, son of Pekka and Jaeena Riikonen, will join Coach Paul Thomson’s team from Kuoplo, Finland. A student at Kuopion Klassillonen, he was a Top 10 player in Finland in both the under 16’s and the under 20’s. Riikonen also made the quarterfinals of the Finish High School Championships as well as making the quarterfinals of the Finish National Championships.

Heikki Riikonen comes to Brevard after graduating high school and serving a nine-month term in the Finish military.

“We are excited to have Heikki in the program,” said Coach Paul Thomson. “He is going to add depth to our line-up as well as maturity and a solid work ethic. I am looking forward to him being a part of the program and the college this spring.”

The Brevard College men’s tennis team finished 9-11 last year as provisional members of NCAA Division II and the South Atlantic Conference.
