BC Finishes Seventh at Food Lion SAC Track and Field ChampionshipsApril 19, 2014
HICKORY, N.C.- The Brevard College men’s and women’s track team started the final day of the Food Lion South Atlantic Conference Track and Field Championships in the 1500 meter run at the Moretz Sports- Athletic Complex on April 19.
Raphael Jordan worked his way to the finals in the 110 meter hurdles for the Tornados. He finished the preliminary in 15.29 during the first heat then at 15.63 for the final round placing him in sixth overall. Kayce Martin ran the 400 meter hurdles qualifying with a time of 58.10. His final race placed him in sixth place at a 58.20 time for BC.
Heidi Kaartinen qualified for the finals after running at 2.28.79 800 meter run for Brevard. She remained steady in the final race against other qualifiers resulting in a seventh place finish for Kaartinen at 2:28.94.
Heidi Kaartinen led the women’s team when she finished at 5:16.68 in the preliminary while teammates Ashely Lowe and Elena Raygoza finished at 5:32. For the men, Marc Delisle finished at 4:23.63 during heat #2 in the preliminary round.
Angela Canale and Jordan Tager competed in the 10000 meter run for Brevard. Canale finished the race in 41:51.24 at eighth place while Tager finished at seventh place at 33:45.95.
Brevard finished the day with a 4x400 meter relay as the men placed in sixth with a 3.33.73 time.
The men's and women's track and field teams finished the championship in seventh place at the Moretz Sports-Athletic Complex in the final day of competition.
