Chilton dominates the paint to win Tornado Athlete of the Week

Men's basketball stalwart Joseph Chilton has been named Tornado Athlete of the Week for the 15th week of the 2008-09 athletic season. Chilton earned 16 of the 30 votes cast by visitors of, or 53.3%.

The senior forward from Brasstown, N.C. played a crucial role in both of Brevard's games last week. Monday against Warren Wilson, Chilton paved the way to a 76-46 victory with 17 points, including four three-pointers. Saturday the Tornados fell to Tusculum, 65-48, but Chilton was a monster on the glass, ripping down a team-best ten rebounds.

The veteran has started all six games for the Tornados, averaging 6.8 ppg and 6.5 rpg. The Tornados are 4-2 (0-1 SAC) heading into a 23-day break for the Christmas holiday. Brevard resumes their season December 29 in Marietta, Ohio against Emory & Henry.

Chilton is the final student-athlete to be honored as Tornado Athlete of the Week in 2008. The award will resume on January 6, 2009.

The Tornado Athlete of the Week is determined by a fan poll on the frontpage of Candidates for the Tornado Athlete of the Week award are announced and voting opens every Saturday night at 10 p.m. Voting closes on Tuesday morning at 10 a.m.
