Tornados drop just one point
Hilton Head, S.C. - Brevard College had little trouble with Stonehill College Tuesday, dispatching the Skyhawks, 8-1, in Hilton Head. Four Tornados won both singles and doubles points for Paul Thomson's team.
Konstantin Savelyev and Cole Altizer opened the afternoon with a doubles win over Michael Mashkevich and Tim Fayed, 8-5 in the No. 1 spot. Jarred Fisher and Heikki Riikonen folowed with an 8-3 decision in the second spot, over Williams Herchel and Jason Allegretti, 8-3. Andrew Thompson and Nate Lyles finished the pairs sweep with an 8-2 win over Mike Leone and Jon Burke, 8-2.
Brevard (7-2) lost only one point in the individual section of the match. Stonehill's (5-3) point came in the top flight, where Fayed beat Savelyev, 7-6 (7-3), 6-3. The rest of the points were Brevard's: Riikonen over Mashkevich, 6-0, 6-0, Altizer over Leone, 6-0, 6-4, Thompson over Allegretti, 6-1, 6-3, Fisher over Herchel, 6-3, 6-2, and Shane Apps over Burke, 6-2, 6-2.
The Tornados play their next-to-last spring break match Wednesday against West Liberty State, while the Skyhawks have a day off before facing Malone on Thursday.
