Tornados fall to No. 40 Mars Hill, 7-2
Winning streak ends at seven for Brevard
Mars Hill, N.C. - The Brevard College Tornados saw their winning streak snapped Tuesday, as they fell, 7-2, to the Lions of Mars Hill in South Atlantic Conference action. The Tornados fall to 11-3 (2-3 SAC), while the Lions improve to 4-3 (2-1 SAC).
The Tornados took two of three from the host team in doubles action. Konstantin Savelyev and Cole Altizer doubled up Carlos Oyaga and Tyrone La Reservee, 8-4, while Jarred Fisher and Heikki Riikonen beat Alessandro du Besse and Ugras Taylan Batuk, 8-6. Mars Hill's lone doubles point came in the third flight, where Koeche Smith and Stevan Stankovic beat Andrew Thompson and Nate Lyles, 8-3.
Mars Hill, ranked 40th in the ITA National Division II rankings, took all six points in singles action to claim the win. In the top flight, du Besse beat Savelyev, 7-6 (7-3), 6-2, while at No. 2, Smith got past Riikonen, 6-3, 6-2. At the third spot, Batuk beat Altizer, 6-3, 6-1, while Andre Schafer defeated Fisher, 6-4, 6-1. Reservee narrowly downed Thompson, 6-3, 4-6, 10-8, in the fifth flight, while Shane Apps lost a tight one at No. 6, 6-4, 7-6 (7-1) to Stankovic.
The Tornados hit the court again on Thursday when they face King College at 3 p.m. Mars Hill faces Carson-Newman next Tuesday at 2 p.m.
