Brevard Track competes at USC InvitationalApril 9, 2009
Columbia, S.C. - The Brevard College Track & Field team competed Wednesday at the USC Invitational, hosted by the University of South Carolina. The event was the second of the season for the Tornados and coach James Galloway.
In the women's 200 meter dash, Micah LaJoie was eliminated in the preliminaries with a time of 26.30.
In the women's 800 meter dash, Kristen Zerressen finished 10th with a time of 3:21.74.
In the men's 800 meter dash, Damon Martin finished 8th out of 16 runners with a time of 2:08.31.
The Tornados had three runners compete in the men's 1600 meter run. Martin finished 5th out of 17 with a time of 4:31.16, Tiffen Tapia was 10th in 4:48.17, and Jonathan LaVelle finished 14th in 5:04.43.
In the men's 5000 meter run, Zach Hazen led the Tornados with a 5th place finish out of nine runners, in a time of 18:13.58. Tapia was 6th in 18:31.22, and LaVelle was 9th in 19:11.44.
In the men's discus throw, Jacob Richardson and Zach Thompson both were eliminated in the preliminaries. Richardson checked in with a throw of 29.56 meters while Thompson's best throw was 29.26.
Brevard's next event is Saturday at the Lenoir-Rhyne Invitational.
